Chaa Da Cup - Please! No.24 - Semiya

Chaa Da Cup - Please!

Chaa Da Cup - Please! is a food blog created for all food lovers

(n.b - mostly chai loving lovers).

The various mixtures of ingredients and recipes complement a hearty Chaa Da Cup! - you'll probably be looking (asking) for one ;)

This is my version of home cooked Punjabi-Kenyan heartiness.

No.24 – Semiya

6 different ingredients - 1hours to prepare - serves over 5 people

Ingredients:

1 bowl - besan (gram flour).

3 tbsp - vegetable oil.

250ml - water.

1/4 tsp - jawain (carom seeds).

1/4 tsp - red chilli powder.

1 tsp (flat) - salt.

Method:

In a large bowl add 1 bowl of besan (gram flour), 250ml of water, 1/4 tsp of jawain (carom seeds), 1/4 tsp of red chilli powder and 1 tsp (flat) of salt, mix all the ingredients together making a thick runny paste. Add 3 tbsps (or less if required) of vegetable oil and mix it into the dough, the oil is used to keep the dough soft.

Once you've made the mixture, using a semiya (vermicelli) making machine, pass the mixture through the machine over a pan with hot vegetable oil in it. Deep fry the mixture as they fall into the oil as long thin sticks. Once they've turned golden brown and are crispy, take them out of the oil and place them on a towel allowing them to soak off.

Finally once they've cooled off, devour your semiya with a steaming hot Chaa Da Cup - Please!

Let us know below in the the comments how your Semiya turn out!
