Chaa Da Cup - Please!

Chaa Da Cup - Please! is a food blog created for all food lovers

(n.b - mostly chai loving lovers).

The various mixtures of ingredients and recipes complement a hearty Chaa Da Cup! - you'll probably be looking (asking) for one ;)

This is my version of home cooked Punjabi-Kenyan heartiness.

No.3 - Onion and Bread Bhajia (Fritters)

11 different ingredients - 30 min to prepare - serves 5 people

Ingredients:

1 bowl - gram flour (besan).

1 teaspoon (flat) - salt.

0.5 teaspoon (flat) - turmeric powder (haldi).

0.5 teaspoon (flat) - red chilli powder.

0.5 teaspoons (flat) - carom seeds (ajwain).

500ml - water.

5 bunches - coriander (dhania).

2 stems (medium) sized - ginger (paste).

2 cloves (large) - garlic (paste).

2 large - white and red onions (sliced).

0.5 or 1 - loaf of bread.

Method:

Making the Binding Paste:

Onion Bhajia (Fritters):

In a large dish add 1 bowl of gram flour with 0.5 teaspoon (flattened) of salt, turmeric powder and red chilli powder. Using a whisk mix all these ingredients with 250ml of water until the mixture becomes a semi thick paste, making sure the paste is lump free.

Bread Bhajia (Fritters):

In a large dish add 1 bowl of gram flour with 0.5 teaspoon (flattened) of salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and carom seeds. Blend/grate 2 medium stems of ginger and 2 large cloves of garlic together to create a paste, and cut 5 bunches of coriander finely.

Using a whisk mix all the ingredients with 250ml of water until the mixture become a semi thick paste, making sure the paste is lump free.

Binding the Bhajia (Fritters) in the Paste and Frying:

Onion Bhajia (Fritters):

Cut 2 large white and red onions into long slices, add the slices into the semi thick paste and mix them together using a wooden spoon. Collect and create small pockets of the combined mixture, drop each pocket into a deep frier with hot vegetable oil. Let the paste and the onions become one as a fritter once the ingredients fry and cook in the oil.

Bread Bhajia (Fritters):

Cut a few slices of bread into 4 square quarters, 2 triangular and rectangular halves. Dip each piece into the semi thick paste coating both sides of the bread, drop each piece into a deep frier with hot vegetable oil. Let the paste and the bread become one as a fritter once the ingredients fry and cook in the oil.

Once the onion and the bread bhajia (fritters) turns golden brown, take them out of the frier and let the oil dry off on a paper towel.

Finally serve these delicacies with some chutney/sauce and a hot Chaa Da Cup - Please!
